1. Scope

This Policy applies to information processed through Research Rebel’s website, member-account features, calculators, educational resources, forms, and communications. It does not govern third-party websites, vendors, laboratories, communities, or platforms linked from Research Rebel. Those services operate under their own privacy practices.

Research Rebel is an educational research platform. A standard account is not intended to collect medical records, diagnoses, prescription information, or other health history. Please do not submit sensitive health information in free-text fields, worksheets, community submissions, or support messages unless a feature expressly requests it and provides an appropriate notice.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Account information: such as name or display name, email address, authentication information, and account preferences.
  • Optional contact information: such as a phone number when you choose to provide one for a feature or communication preference.
  • Communications: information you send when contacting us, submitting feedback, or requesting support.
  • Research-platform content: information you intentionally save to member features, such as bookmarks, preferences, worksheets, or research notes, if those features are enabled.
  • Marketing preferences and consent records: such as whether you opted into email or text communications and the date/version of the disclosure associated with that choice.

Information collected automatically

When you use the site, our hosting, security, authentication, and technical service providers may process device and usage information such as IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring pages, pages or features accessed, timestamps, approximate location derived from IP address, security events, and similar diagnostic information.

Sources

We generally collect information directly from you, automatically from your browser or device, and from service providers that support the site. We may also receive information when you follow or interact with an external referral or affiliate link, subject to the external service’s practices.

3. How We Use Information

We may use information to provide and secure the site; create, authenticate, and maintain accounts; remember preferences; operate research tools and saved features; respond to requests; send service messages; send marketing communications when permitted; maintain consent and opt-out records; detect abuse, fraud, or security incidents; troubleshoot and improve performance; comply with law; enforce our Terms; and establish or defend legal claims.

We seek to limit collection to information reasonably related to these purposes. If we materially change how we use personal information, we will update this Policy and obtain consent where required by applicable law.

4. How We Disclose Information

We may disclose personal information to service providers and contractors that perform services on our behalf, such as website hosting and security, authentication and database infrastructure, email or messaging delivery, analytics or diagnostics if enabled, and professional advisers. Current site infrastructure includes Cloudflare for website delivery/security and Supabase for authentication and related backend services. Their processing is also governed by their applicable terms and privacy documentation.

We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or legal process, protect rights or safety, investigate misuse, or in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of the business, subject to applicable law.

Sale, sharing, and targeted advertising

Research Rebel does not currently sell personal information for money. We do not currently use personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If our practices change in a way that creates a statutory “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted-advertising activity, we will provide the notices and opt-out mechanisms required by applicable law.

Affiliate links

Some external links may be affiliate or referral links. We may receive credit or compensation if you use them. Clicking such a link may allow the external platform and its technology providers to receive information associated with the referral. See our Affiliate Disclosure.

5. Cookies, Local Storage, and Similar Technologies

Research Rebel and its providers may use cookies, browser local storage, session storage, and similar technologies that are necessary for authentication, security, preferences, theme selection, and site functionality. For example, the site may remember your selected light/dark theme and account session. If optional analytics or advertising technologies are introduced, we will update this Policy and provide consent or opt-out controls where required.

Browser settings can often block or delete these technologies, but doing so may cause account, preference, or other site features to stop working correctly.

6. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live and whether a particular privacy law applies to Research Rebel, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of certain personal information; to opt out of certain sales, sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling; to limit certain uses of sensitive information; to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and to appeal certain decisions regarding a privacy request. We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.

To submit a privacy request, email [email protected] with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity and authority before completing a request. Authorized-agent requests will be handled as required by applicable law.

If a legally recognized browser-based opt-out signal, such as Global Privacy Control, applies to our processing, we will honor it as required by applicable law. Because we do not currently engage in statutory sale/sharing or targeted advertising, such a signal may not change your current site experience.

Email and text choices

You may unsubscribe from marketing email using the unsubscribe mechanism in the message. If Research Rebel offers SMS/text alerts and you opt in, consent is optional and is not a condition of registration or purchase. Message frequency may vary; message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out and HELP for help. Service or transactional communications may still be sent when necessary to operate your account or fulfill a request.

7. Data Retention and Security

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to maintain an account, provide requested services, keep required consent or transaction records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and satisfy legal obligations. Retention periods vary by data type and purpose.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information we process. No internet transmission, storage system, or security measure can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for notifying us if you believe your account has been compromised.

8. International Processing

Research Rebel is operated from the United States. Our service providers may process information in the United States or other jurisdictions. Where required, we will use legally recognized safeguards for cross-border transfers.

9. Children’s Privacy

Research Rebel is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the site. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.

10. Third-Party Links

Research Rebel links to scientific publications, government resources, vendors, communities, and other third-party services. A link does not make the third party part of Research Rebel. We are not responsible for a third party’s privacy, security, content, or data practices. Review the third party’s policies before providing information.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy as our services, providers, or legal obligations change. We will post the revised version with a new “Last updated” date and provide additional notice when required by law. Material changes will apply prospectively to the extent required by applicable law.
